Partly government-owned Oman Fisheries Company (OFC) will send its first fully-owned vessel with a yearly 10,000 M/T capacity out for fishing. The purse seiner is the beginning of a series of fully-owned vessels in the company’s commercial fleet to support high sea fishing operations. Recently, OFC received partial ownership of a pre-owned vessel with a 200 M/T capacity.

The seiner – with refrigerated storage capacity onboard – will go fishing for tuna, sardine, and mackerel in the Sultanate’s waters along the Wusta and Dhofar coasts. The pelagic fish will be exported in frozen form. The purchase of the vessel fits in with OFC’s project of investments in processing and value-adding facilities with a processing plant as a final goal in 2021.
